Interested job seekers can now apparently find
job listings for the
Cleveland Clinic on
Twitter, despite the fact the hospital is supposed to be under a hiring freeze.
The Cleveland Clinic has about 500 active job postings on Twitter, the social network that allows members to send short, 140-character updates. However, some are questioning the openings, as the Cleveland Clinic has recently been under an official hiring freeze.
Margaret Vandervort, the Cleveland Clinic's talent-sourcing specialist who goes by the Twitter name
@margaretv, has been tweeting a slew of job listings, teasers and personal anecdotes to more than 950 followers. However Vandervort hasn't made any hires using Twitter.
"When you put a message out there, there are no geographical barriers whatsoever," Vandervort told
The Plain Dealer. "I might tweet out a position, people can pick it up and re-tweet it and before you know it, it might be in Australia or China."
Vandervort has listed such positions as a cook and a yoga instructor. Other area health care providers have listed positions on Twitter, including the U.S.
Army Medical Corps in Lakewood and the
MetroHealth System in Cleveland.
The
Cleveland area has long been known for its strong healthcare industry. On top of that, many people are currently looking into a
career in healthcare, because it's one of the few industries that are considered to be recession-proof. Many students are turning their studies toward healthcare majors, while other workers are changing their career path to the more stable field of healthcare.
The Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor area's education and health services industry employed 183,400 workers during May, according to the United States Department of Labor
Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 184,000 workers during April, but a 2 percent increase from last year.
