Six companies have worked to create more than 1,000
jobs in Fort Lauderdale and throughout
Broward County.
The Broward Alliance recently announced that six companies created more than 1,000 new jobs and helped retain 450 other jobs, which resulted in a $136 million investment in Broward County's economy during the last year.
According to an article by the
South Florida Business Journal, the six businesses include: Florida Heat Pump/Bosch, Midnight Express Boats, Solar Transportation Solutions, Point Blank Solutions, S&B Industry Foxconn Technology Group and Research in Motion. The six companies are among 700 that the alliance assisted during the last fiscal year.
"We attracted new companies to Broward, supported
local businesses with workforce training and education, and provided information on sources of capital and economic stimulus funds," Ray Ferrero Jr., outgoing chairman of The Broward Alliance, said.
Many officials throughout the area have been making an effort to help create and retain more jobs. Most recently, the
Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and the
City of Fort Lauderdale unveiled a plan to visit 50 companies in the area to help with business expansion and retention. However, the area is still feeling the effects of the economic recession.
While the U.S. Department of Labor
Bureau of Labor Statistics has not yet released September unemployment data for the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach area, the area did see its unemployment rate decrease from 9.7 percent to 9.5 percent during August.
During September, according to the BLS, the area had a total non-farm employment of 736,400 workers, which is down from 737,900 workers during August and a 3.3 percent decrease from last year.
